The Importance of Trigger Pointing

Muscle trigger points are points of high sensitivity which radiate pain through a predictable area. Once I know where the pain is radiating, I know which trigger point or points need to be released.

Getting regular bodywork, and especially getting trigger points released, is a key to good health. When a trigger point is active, the muscle is in chronic contraction. It gets sore because it has lost its ability to come to a state of rest, balanced between contraction and extension. In this state of tension, the muscle’s area of influence is not getting good blood flow, and thus takes on “negative energy.” That is, the toxins are not being removed, and nutrients are not flowing in easily.

If a muscle is left in this state, more serious problems can begin, because the area is becoming increasingly toxic. The problem is not perceived because when a muscle has pain which is not addressed, it will stop sending distress signals at that level and move up a threshold. Gradually, a seriously unbalanced muscle, and the negative energy in its area of influence, can become “insensitive.”

Trigger pointing is a way to find these areas, rebalance the muscles, and bring them back to an intelligent sensitivity.

I have found that when a person is taught to separate emotional reaction from actual physiological sensation, which is easily accomplished through hypnosis, there is a general improvement in body intelligence. Certainly, trigger points can be more easily released, and the general health of the person greatly enhanced.
