Curious Dog

Sammy is a dog and he’s daddy’s best friend
he smiles like the devil and he runs like the wind
Sammy guards mama when daddy’s not there
he’s a long black shadow with a dangerous stare
he is a curious dog,
a very very curious dog.

When mommy and Sammy walk down the street
they get a real nice smile from everybody they meet
nobody’s rude and nobody’s mean
cause when they think about an evil scene
they see a curious dog,
a very very curious dog.

When we get to a door it’s already open,
the chair’s pulled out and the waiter’s well spoken,
The seafood’s fresh and the wine is old
Sammy’s eyes shift from lead to gold
he’s a curious dog,
a very very curious dog.

Nobody pets him and nobody tries him,
Sammy’s got eyes that are hypnotizing
Sammy don’t fetch and Sammy don’t beg
and he’s got a funny way of measuring your leg
he’s a curious dog,
a very very curious dog.

Sammy does his job and even Mama can’t pet him,
Sammy’s got rules and it’s my daddy that set’em
He don’t need petting and he don’t need friends
he and daddy they are serious men
he’s a curious dog
a very very curious dog.

Now when mama goes walking my daddy’s eyes twinkle
and Sammy trots out to provide a new wrinkle
on a midday stroll in the soft sunshine
everybody’s pleasant and nobody’s out of line
it’s that curious dog,
that very very curious dog,

Now one time a man counted back wrong change
then his eyes met Sammy like a chicken meets a train
A ten dollar bill just jumped into his hand
and he handed it to mama and they both sang
this is a curious dog,
a very very curious dog.

When we go to church Sammy goes along
he sits down front knawing on a bone
The preacher looks at Sammy like he wants to throw him out
and the choir starts singing and everybody shouts
This is a curious dog,
a very very curious dog.

Sammy is a curious dog,
a very very curious dog,
He is his daddy’s dog,
a very very curious dog,
oh Sammy ....
